~A once brilliant mind is reduced in a matter of days into its primordial components. At his death, Wesley was a hard-edged irony, a man devoted religiously to the righteous path who had fallen into bed with a decidedly Bad Girl, his bright soul darkened, left with bitter self repugnance and regret, and lots of anger. He set himself into a self destructive spiral that ended with drunken stupors and a knife in the gut. Yet before all that horror, before the betrayals on both sides, before so much loss and hurt, there was a young and ignorant Watcher; and even before that, there was a cringing and desperate son who wanted nothing more to prove himself in the eyes of his father.

Primitive Wesley is imbued with these innate traits. No sophisticated training, no education. But he does retain his experiences, albeit seen through the mind of a neanderthal.

Snape had managed to drag Wesley out from the mire, and now Wesley, younger and desperate to prove his worth to this man, follows him around like a sychophant. A demony snake hisses in Snape's path, Wesley wrings the life from it with his hands so his better may proceed. A demony leech sucks onto Snape's shin, Wesley bites it in two and removes the remaining offending bit. It's a little like having the loyalty of a puppy some big bully used to beat. Wesley lives to serve the Alpha.~

*Lilah didn't spend much time debating with the crazy lady and her pet corpse, which in the end was probably a good thing, since now Crazy Lady and Lilah are now both about as witty as the pet corpse.

Lilah is cowering at the base of a large and rather sinister looking swamp tree, now. Freed from that restrictive thingie called speech and unfetterd by anything resembling logic, she's just a terrified, weak female who knows herself to be vulnerable, and the grunts and splashes she's heard prompt her to hide as best she can, because she can only assume whatever's making all that noise must be pretty damn dangerous.*

*Snape is confused by Wesley's sudden abandonment and, after a questioning grunt, follows him towards Lilah. He, too, can smell the female, but he is cautious by nature and wants to make certain she is alone, and so sniffs around in an attempt to find another male. Part of him already is shifting back to the more familiar position of follower, but he is curious about the female and so joins Wesley by her side.*

*Whether it's some deeply embedded devotion to Lily that even in this state he can't shake, or whether he still sees Wesley as top dog, Snape isn't all that interested in Lilah. He sniffs her hair briefly but charges off, the stick he'd used to pull Wesley from the mud high in the air, after another male shade closing in on them. While he may not be interested in Lilah the same way Wesley is, he has no intention, any more than Wesley, of relinquishing this find to others.*

*Lilah sprawls into the water, struggling and wide-eyed. She's terrified of these males, but she's more terrified of being alone. There's a nagging familiarity in the scent of the one nearest her, and she can't say she's entirely uncomforted by his strength. But she's cold and wet and tired and she'd really just like to find somewhere to rest. She forces herself upright in the water and issues a growly grunt of dissaproval. There, that'll show those males.*

*Snape is more concerned by her vocalizations and comes over to investigate. Unlike Wesley, he doesn't seem as bothered by the other scent, his nose wrinkling in distaste and his lips twisted as if he's just eaten something disgusting, but he has smelled far worse in the past. Not only do some potions, properly brewed, smell terrible, but he's smelled the failed potions of countless students as well. Lilah's chemical smell is unpleasant, but not enough to discourage him from investigation. Instead, he peers at her from every angle with lowered brows and makes soft, questioning grunts of worry. He reaches out to touch her arm.*

*Instincts are funny things, and they certainly all that governs behaviour, even for a simple minded devolved creature. Lilah senses something familiar in this male who has her by the throat, and it stirs mixed responses. She's scared, she wants to flee, but she's also attracked to the man. His scent. His strength. His anger. His... physique.

Her legs kick and slide in the muck. She's tall and he hasn't lifted her enough her her to stand straight, but higher than she can use her knees to relieve the pressure on her throat. She chokes out a strangled grunt and rolls her eyes to appeal to the other male. He seems timid, but strong enough. Maybe he might be convinced to fight this male and she could slip away. Or maybe he could just put this male in his place. She wouldn't mind having the protection of two males. They could form a clan. Something stirs in her and prods her to want offspring.*

*Snape takes her arm and helps lift her higher. He isn't sure why she's upset; they're helping her, after all. Primitive Snape cannot understand how strong Wesley's grip is without experiencing it himself, and so does not understand the signals she is giving him. His mind does know that he himself is uncomfortable standing in all this water and mud, and he gestures to a small rise that is at least not submerged. He wants to take her there, and with gestures and grunts, indicates this to Wesley.*
