~Snape has listened to Wesley's theory on what's happening to them now and must accept it as plausible. He's never experienced, or even seen, what Wesley has described, but his first thought is, Doesn't Hell already have enough demons running around? Why do we have to spawn more? But from what Wesley describes concerning some demon births, the symptoms fit. He's somewhat wishing now that he'd let Barty kill him, because he's fairly certain it would have been a quicker and more merciful death, and with luck, he would have missed this particular torment and not had this..._thing_...growing inside him.

He wonders if it will hollow him out inside like a human pumpkin gutted for Halloween carving. And when it emerges? Wesley's descriptions on that varied from one species to another, with several distinct potential exits. Wesley described scenes of creatures eating exit holes or things wriggling out of the body through the mouth and leaving the remnants like a mangled, discarded snake skin. Then there was the one that Snape is almost hoping for; the quick, furious and literal burst from the body that Wesley has assured him is so fast that Snape probably won't realize what's going on before he's burst asunder. Wesley certainly knows how to comfort.

A sharp pain bursts across his back; it's finally happening. Snape drops to his knees, gasping from pain and fear. He's about to give birth to a demon. He hurriedly takes his cloak and frock coat off and pulls up his shirt.~

What is it? What can I expect? ~he asks nervously.~

I'd say two inches per hour, give or take, *Wesley groans. He's been walking hunched over for a while, as one does with a serious stomach ache, and preceeding this cryptic comment gave a horrendous scream and dropped to the ground. Hands and knees pressed firmly onto the floor of the cave, he heaves and moans, blood running from somewhere on his body Snape can't see from above him. Snape can see that in one fist he's clutching something shining and wet with blood. It's just enough info to let Snape REALLY panic.*

*It takes Wesley far too long for Snape's liking to be able to respond.* ripitout, *he finally hisses through teeth clenched in pain. He takes pain tolerably well, but it's hard to bend your will to supressing it when it's all you have.* ripitoutfast. notmuchtime.

*Wesley had already mostly ripped his shoots free but is grateful Snape came to his aid. However, he had hoped Snape would be able to tend to his own. He begins to momentarily recover as Snape begins twisting and writhing.*

Just a moment, *he hisses, clutching at his gaping wound with one hand and grasping the bamboo sprouting from Snape's back in the other. He grasps the shoots as firmly as he can and braces one foot against the opposite wall, then-*

It'll only grow back with more vigor, *he informs Snape, offering his arm on which to steady himself.* I don't imagine we have much time before we'll need to- I can feel it growing...

I think we should, if you think you can... make it.

*Wes is determined to move on despite the debilitating hole clear to his liver. He can't help but think of Lilah- eviscerated by the Beast, bravely trying to survive. He shudders and his step falters; he nearly lets Snape slide off his arm. He appologizes with a mutter and presses forward.*

We should try to keep an eye on one another.

Master Gardeners of Hell Club? I can just imagine.

*He pauses to break a shoot off of Snape's back.*

*further down from Snape and Wesley, Barty lies in a rather pathetic heap, his meticulously collected gear for the trip scattered about, still frosted - the shoots have done quite a number on him, one has pushed out from behind his left eye and another wreaks internal havoc as it punctures and thrives within his lungs, leaving him perpetually near catatonic, he jerks unpleasantly like an inexpertly handled puppet as another begins to push itself up from his abdomen*

*all Regulus can see is an up-close look at one of the tools Barty had been carrying, he had crumpled next to it and now he doesn't dare lift his arm to move it from in front of his eyes, even breathing should be avoided if at all possible because every little movement causes the one particularly large stock of bamboo growing up through his torso to sway and whenever that happens he looses consciousness again - Regulus doesn't have much body to grow through and the bamboo doesn't seem deterred by the lack of sunlight, just keeps getting taller*

*Wesley is unaware of the two shades further up the tunnel, whom he and Snape are inch by inch catching up to. He grunts at Snape's suggestion of bamboo stir fry, then freezes. He's heard one of the shades ahead of them whimper and stir, easily identifying the rustle of bamboo coming not only from himself and Snape, but faintly from somewhere ahead of them in the tunnel.*

Did you hear that? *he gasps, one hand moving absently to his temple where a horrid splitting migraine has taken residence.*

ohdeargod, *Wes whispers, catching sight of Reg and Barty.* It's horrid, like something out of a late night sci fi channel program... *Wes is momentarily distracted by random thoughts of "Lexx" but quickly comes back to the matter at hand.*

Of course, *he replies in a strained voice.* It's only right. If they'll accept- it-

*He staggers, gasping, ripping at the shoot poking through his left eye as blood and retinal fluids stream from the wound.*

*Snape's precautionary hold on the shoot is helpful but it's impossible not to move something you're trying to saw through, Regulus' resolve can't extend this far and he curls when the pole presses against his lungs, it feels unnatural to have something going through the body that isn't meant to be there and as Snape works he falls into what would be death before being as always thrown back into painful life and starts sputtering*

*the flesh around the bamboo growing out of Regulus is red and sore with infection, every time Snape moves him or the bamboo to try and remove it he jerks in pain, like a skewered animal, still he stays quiet*

*loose gravel from the tunnel floor is embedded in Regulus' cheek and a little hint of green is just poking itself though the skin there, little sprigs of bamboo poke up all over the place but by all accounts the main problem is the biggest one that Snape is currently removing; Regulus keeps his eyes on the cave floor, not particularly comfortable meeting the eyes of someone trying to remove plantlife from him*

Why can you move around like that and we can't.

And I moved the wrong way and lost consciousness so I've been a little bit wary since then, you see.
